Business-to-business (B2B) describes commerce transactions between businesses, such as between a manufacturer and a wholesaler, or between a wholesaler and a retailer. Contrasting terms are business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-government (B2G).
Electronic commerce, or E-commerce, is fast catching the imagination of people and businesses.
In fact, it is changing the very paradigm of the manner in which business is being conducted. While E-commerce is the `front end’ for selling products over the Internet, Electronic Business covers the use of technology, processes and management practices that enhances competitiveness.
Though E-commerce is on Business-to-Business (B2B), Business-to-consumer (B2C) and Consumer-to-Business (C2B), it is being increasingly realised that the B2B holds the most potential. While the global B2C E-commerce is expected to grow from $7.80 billions in 1998 to $108 billions by 2003, that for B2B is forecast to grow from $43 billions to $1.40 trillions. Little wonder that the focus world over is now on B2B E-commerce.
